November 8th in History

                                  Wilhem Conrad Rontgen

On this day November 8 in 1895 a German physicist named Wilhem Conrad Rontgen (pictured above) became the first person to observe an x-ray. Rontgens discovery was labeled as a medical miracle and in 1897 x-rays were first used on a military battlefield (The Balkan War), to find bullets and broken bones. Scientist realized the benefits of x-rays but they didn't know the harmful effects of the radiation. Some years later scientist started reporting cases of burns and skin damage after exposure to the x-rays, and in 1904 Thomas Edisons assistant Clarence Dally died of skin cancer due to the extensive exposure of x-rays, her death caused scientist to take the risk of radiation more seriously. Wilhem Rontgen recieved many awards for his work, and in 1901 he was the first to recieve the Nobel Prize* for physics. As we all know x-rays are an important part of the medical field that allow us to see inside the body without surgery, so thank you Mr.Rontgen for stumbling upon x-rays you have saved us all from a lot of unnecessary pain!

Quote Of The Day

"If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything."
                     -Malcolm X

A round of Applause for the Queen Creek High Football Team!!

Today I have a great story that gives you a little bit more hope in humanity. A special needs student in Queen Creek, Az named Chay Johnson was the new girl, and as we all know being the new kid is hard but add special needs and it gets a lot tougher, Chay has a brain disorder. Chay was bullied by fellow students and some even threw trash at her! Chays mother got in touch with one of Chays friend and he just happened to be the starting Quarterback for the Queen Creek Football team. As we all know being on the football team automatically makes you one of the coolest kids around, but also in most cases the kid that does the bullying but not in this case. Jones took it upon himself to sit with Chay at lunch and protect her, not only does Jones protects her but the entire football team does!! Thats right the entire Queen Creek High Football team protects Chay. Since the boys have started protecting Chay no-one has bullied her anymore, she is one lucky girl. Not only is she no longer being bullied but she is surrounded by all those cute guys! All we hear are about all this horrible stories about bullying and all the pain that bullies cause those they bully, and here there is one story, one story that gives you hope and makes you smile. This one story lets you know that there is still great, caring people in this world that help others when needed. This one story gives you a renewed ray of hope in humanity. Not only has the football team helped Chay, they've also let people know that bullying will not be tolerated and that those that are being bullied are no longer alone and no longer have to be afriad, and that there is still good hearted people in this world. Good job boys!!

Tucson Comic Con

So today was an adventure for me, I stepped out of my confort zone and went somewhere that I would normaly never go, I went to Tucson's Comic Con. I must admit I had reservations about going I'm not into comic books, or anime any of that even though my little brother does and talks about it all the time. I thought to myself "why are you going?" why? because your friend asked you over a month ago to go with her and you said yes thats why! Oh yea". So I didn't want to let my friend down and I had already promised her that I would go so I did. When we arrived I was still a bit reluctant to go and even thought maybe I'll just wait outside and wait for them, but knowing my friend she would of never let me stay outside (she is very stubborn). So I walked in and at first I was like "Wooh baby where am I? You are completely out of place." But as we began to walk around I started to enjoy myself. People where dressed up some where Batman, Spiderman, Captain America there was even someone dressed as Sailor Moon! Do you remember Sailor Moon? No? well I do. It was a great atmosphere and much to my disbelief I enjoyed it, and most certainly would go back. I have no clue if I enjoyed it so much because I was with friends or because the excitment was contagious but I did like it none-the-less. The only problem is that I didn't take enough money to buy anything because I didn't think I'd like anything, but boy was I wrong :/ Next year I will remember to take money and I will most definitely take my little brother because he would of loved it!!

Can I have a hug?

Hug anyone you can, you know unless you're a student at Adam Road Primary School in Australia. That's right an Australian school has banned hugging due to excessive amount of hugging that has led to injuries and class disruptions. Can you believe that? I understand that most schools have a no PDA (Public Display of Affection) rule but hugging has never been  necessarly considered part of that rule. If your kissing or touching each other inappropriately than yes, but a simple hug? A hug can change a persons day it's something so simple but it can make a person feel better if they are having a crappy day. I for one think hugging is not a big deal it is not inappropriately and it certainly is not a big offence to were a child has to be given detention for hugging a friend. Don't get me wrong some rules are needed to keep everyone from complete chaos but too many rules make people want to do the opposite. Schools want their students to get along and be kind to one another and be friendly, but when you take hugging away from them which just happens to be the most common form of showing, friendship and kindness, what's left? Handshaking? Handshaking gives people the opposite affect of hugging (at least to me) when I shake someones hand it's because I don't feel comfortable around them and I close myself off and keep the conversation short. Maybe I'm being biased but lets be honest everyone hugs it's no big deal and hugging makes you happy, and when you're happy you spread that happiness around and you have a better day. I think the school should reconsider baning hugging and if they don't I hope they inforce it with everyone including teachers, the principal, administrators, etc because kids follow what they see and if the adults that made this decision don't follow they're own rule don't expect the kids to either remember "Practice what you Preach". By the way did you know that there is a National Hugging Day? Well you do now it's January 21st.
